Many of us are aware that the Indian government has introduced a new tax system, Goods and Services Tax (GST) with the slogan “One Nation, One Tax” on July 1, 2017. The GST system subsumes more than a dozen direct and indirect taxes and helps both enterprises and individuals to save more bucks. Here I have briefed the procedure for obtaining the GST Identification Number (GSTIN) to let you know.
Step 1 – Fill the Details:
You need to login to the official website of GST, ‘www.gst.gov.in’, to find the ‘New Registration’ tab under the ‘Services drop-down’ for GST Registration. Fill all the details related to the name and location of your Business along with the Permanent Account Number (PAN), email address and mobile number and click on ‘Proceed’ button.
Step 2 – Upload Digital Documents:
You will be redirected to the next page, where you need to enter the OTP you have received through the email and text message. After submitting the OTPs, you need to upload digital copies of the Business Registration Documents and PAN card for the verification purpose. Post submission of the digital copies, you will receive an email and a text message with your reference number.
Step 3 – Track GST Identification Number Application Status:
Click on the ‘Track Application Status’ button under the ‘Services’ drop-down of the official website – www.gst.gov.in to track your GST application status.
After submitting the complete application along with the digital documents, a provisional Goods and Services Tax Identification Number (GSTIN) will be generated and provided to you in a couple of weeks.
